Who Is Right And Who Is Wrong
Who Is Right And Who Is Wrong

When you reach a point in a discussion with someone, where your opinion completely differs from the other person, and you feel that your opinion is right and other feels the same about theirs, then who will decide who is right or who is wrong, how to conclude.
In this article, I have given my opinion on what should be done in such situations to restore peace of mind and end the discussion on a positive note.
In our life, we reach on a point with our acquainted ones ( your parents, your spouse, your siblings, or your friends ) when we find that our point of view on certain topics clashes with theirs.
We make efforts to explain our viewpoint to them and they try to explain theirs. And argument continues until one party accepts the other, that to not because they agreed with the other party but just to finish the argument.
This kind of agreement or acceptance made the winning party thinks that they are right and the other’s opinion is wrong. This gives a big blow to their ego, and in the future, they will do anything to win, to prove themselves right.
This kind of attitude will prevent them from considering different opinions or ideas. Which will restrict their growth and decrease their power of acceptance.
How to deal with these situations in a peaceful manner?
Let us understand this with an example…
A son involves in an argument with his father regarding his future goals. He wants to become an actor and his father expects him to join the family business. He is very passionate and confident about his future in the acting line, on the other hand, his father had this notion that he should stay here with him and expand his family business and he is completely against sending his only son to a strange city to struggle and waste his time.
In the above-mentioned situation, the son will think my father is doing wrong he is creating a hindrance in fulfilling his aim. And father will think that he is right, he has more experience than his son, and whatever he is doing will benefit his son in the future.
Father’s rejection will ignite anger and negative thoughts in the mind of the son. Soon he will start complaining, that his father doesn’t understand him, and that he doesn’t care for him. This will compel him to take a step against his father’s will.
If we analyze this situation, we can notice that both are right in their opinions. But both considered each other’s opinion wrong. When the word “WRONG” is used it blocks the power of understanding and generates feelings of anger and inadequacy.
This could happen in any relationship because we all have egos, and the ego loves to win. Ego couldn’t hear the word “WRONG”, it agitates it and makes it to fight for its protection.
If we replace this word “WRONG” with the word “DIFFERENT”. for example if we start saying your opinion is not wrong it’s just different from mine. This will subside the ego and kill other feelings accompanied by the ego like anger and frustration.
It will develop more understanding for others and will evolve the feeling of acceptance. Acceptance creates harmony in the relations. So always end the discussion with the conclusion that both can be right.
In the end, I just want to say that our viewpoints and perspectives are based on our experiences in life. It is not possible for everyone to have the same experiences.
